Introduction

Local, clinically led commissioning is a strong force for positive change in the NHS, with CCGs driving real improvements in services and outcomes for patients. NHSCC is proudly member led and member driven, with a membership of 90% of CCGs in England.

Our work ensures that clinical commissioners have the support and guidance they need to be system leaders. We do this in three main ways.

Voice
We give our members a strong, influencing voice from the frontline to the wider NHS, national bodies, government, parliament and the media.

As part of this we meet regularly with NHS England and Improvement, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, the Department of Health and Social Care, CQC, NICE and other national stakeholders to raise the issues that might be holding commissioners back and help to find solutions and shape national policy. We also respond to consultations and give evidence to parliamentary inquiries on issues that will make a difference to the work of clinical commissioners and the wider NHS.

Support
We produce publications and briefings, both to demonstrate the positive difference that clinical commissioning is making, and to help spread learning.

We hold workshops, events and webinars to keep members informed on current topics and facilitate direct engagement with senior decision-makers.

We also provide clinical commissioners with information to help navigate the complexities of the health and care system, nationally, regionally and locally,  via our member bulletins and briefings, available in the members only area of our website.

Networking
We have a number of specialist networks, including for lay members, mental health commissioners, and finance officers. These provide an opportunity for commissioners involved in these areas
to come together and support each other with common challenges as well as share best practice to enhance their work locally.

We also offer personal and professional development for CCG leaders to help them effectively deliver enduring transformation that meets the healthcare needs of their local populations.

“Being a member of NHS Clinical Commissioners has been invaluable, particularly in my roles leading seven CCGs in East London and the STP footprint. Access to roundtables and meetings with both national and fellow system leaders from across the country allows me to draw on the insight and experience of others and share learning, as we work together to navigate a complex and ever-changing NHS landscape.”

Jane Milligan, Accountable Officer, NHS North East London Commissioning Alliance; Senior Responsible Officer, North East London STP
