New funding is always welcome but evidence suggests that this falls short of what is needed to truly support the transformation agenda.

Responding to Prime Minister’s announcement on new funding for the NHS, co-chair of NHS Clinical Commissioners Dr Graham Jackson today said:

“New funding is always welcome but evidence suggests that this falls short of what is needed to truly support the transformation agenda.  Our members will continue to have to make difficult decisions that balance the needs of the individual against those of their whole populations. We have long been calling for an honest conversation with public, patients & clinicians about what the NHS should & can provide – that conversation has now become even more urgent.

Graham Jackson - board meetingWe await further details of what the deal comprises and look forward to working with NHS England, Jeremy Hunt and the Department of Health and Social Care to ensure this money is spent in the best way possible for patients and populations. Social care of course remains a concern and we hope that a commitment on that follows quickly.”
