Responding to NHS England and NHS Improvement’s letter to general practice and CCGs about preparations for a COVID-19 vaccination programme, Lou Patten, chief executive of NHS Clinical Commissioners, said:
“We welcome the guidance from NHS England and Improvement that sets out an ambitious plan to be ready to roll out the new COVID vaccine. Our clinical commissioning members stand ready to work with Primary Care Networks and other partners to deliver on the plans as set out.
“However, the planned roll out is a tall order with tight deadlines and it needs to be delivered by the whole system working together, in a planned and coordinated way, at a time when the NHS is already under considerable pressure dealing with COVID and non-COVID patients during the winter months. We need the public’s support in understanding these pressures and urge them to do their part in following the guidance to ensure we reduce the number of people contracting the virus.”
