Today the Queen set out the Government’s agenda of legislation for the new session of Parliament. Included in today’s speech were a number of draft bills designed to help to implement the NHS Long Term Plan, as well as others which would affect the health and care sector more widely.
Responding to the Queen’s Speech, Julie Wood, chief executive of NHS Clinical Commissioners said:
“We are pleased to see that today’s Queen Speech includes new laws to be taken forward to help implement the National Health Service’s Long Term Plan. We have lent our support to the recommendations being put forward by NHS England/Improvement for legislative change and our members have been clear for some time that certain changes to legislation are needed to really accelerate integrated working between clinical commissioners and their partners.”
The NHS Confederation has produced a useful briefing summarising some of the key draft bills that will come before Parliament in the coming year.
