MHCN national event: Next steps for mental health – delivering the Five Year Forward View

This year our Mental Health Commissioners Network’s annual event will focus on the Next steps for the NHS Five Year Forward View and what this means for mental health. The event will be an opportunity to discuss the national direction and hear from some key speakers, as well as reflect and share on work locally and network with colleagues and peers.

claire_murdochKeynote from Claire Murdoch on mental health workforce
Claire Murdoch, national director for mental health, NHS England, will be one of the keynote speakers at the event, where she will discuss the workforce strategy, following on from the recent publication of Stepping forward to 2020/21: Mental health workforce plan for England. Claire will then participate in a panel session and Q&A on this topic with representatives from CCGs and the provider sector.

Report launch: Mental health and primary care
We will also be launching the latest MHCN publication at the event exploring how commissioning innovative services in primary care can improve support for those experiencing mental ill health. This follows on from last year’s publication Support from the Start: Commissioning for early intervention in mental ill health.

Breakout sessions
Delegates can participate in workshop sessions featuring case studies and practical advice on the following topics:

  • Children and young people’s mental health and the role of education;
  • Perinatal mental health;
  • Impact of the Police and Crime Act 2017 on Mental Health Commissioning.
